Boston wine educator and author Jonathon Alsop created his working blackboard from the Boston Wine School in Portland, Oregon on Friday, February 20 for the Kimpton Hotel Vintage Plaza. Dawson Design Associates, Inc., an award-winning Seattle architecture design firm, renovated the hotel and contracted Alsop to produce the artwork.

Alsop says the blackboard is fundamental to his interactive, visual teaching style. The founder and executive director of the Boston Wine School, Alsop leads a faculty of teachers to educate students about wine in an interactive and entertaining environment at 1354 Commonwealth Ave. in Allston, MA. Other wine schools, specifically in China, are negotiating to reproduce and install the Boston Wine School blackboard as well.

chalkboardHVP001Dawson Design Associates contacted Alsop last fall to inquire about creating his blackboard for the Portland location after viewing an online photograph of the blackboard taken by a student. The site reopened as the Hotel Vintage Portland, managed by Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, on March 17.
