Boston Wine School (BWS), founded in 2000 by wine writer Jonathon Alsop, is a 501c3 Massachusetts non-profit organization dedicated to the expansion of wine and food education in the USA and China.
Our education focus is on interactive experiential learning: tasting, thinking, and talking about wine. We teach fundamental topics and basic wine tasting skills all the way to in depth sessions on famous wine grapes and important wine regions.
Classes are small – usually 15 to 36 students – and feature one night, multiple week, and weekend classes with dinner. The combination of small scale and high quality represents what Boston Wine School stands for: the very best tasting, teaching, and learning experience possible.
BWS is a 100% snob-free zone where all people can come to learn about wine – no matter who you are, no matter how much you know, or don’t know, about wine. You don’t have to be a somm or even want to be a somm to come to the Wine School. Our students are wine lovers of all kinds who want to learn more about wine and food, get more comfortable and confident, and learn how to communicate and understand wine.
Our professional level classes educate salespeople – wholesale, retail, restaurant, bartenders, caterers, event planners, anyone who orders or recommends wine – and give them the tools to increase sales. Boston Wine School hosts many wine makers and vineyards from around the world eager to educate wine lovers on new and emerging wines.
